Revealing ‘Gloucestershire’s Best Kept Secret’
The Bathurst Swimming Pool in Lydney, Gloucestershire dates all the way back to 1920. Given as a present to the 'inhabitants of Lydney and Aylburton' by the Bathurst family, the pool is considered to be one of Gloucestershire's best kept secrets, until now...

Located in the Forest of Dean, the 38 metre outdoor charity funded pool is run by volunteers and recently asked Plastica to manufacture a 130ft winter debris cover with specific cut out measurements for their water features and filtration system. The material used for the cover was cut into eight identical pieces. After cutting, the material was sewn together using a triple needle sewing machine for an extra strong stitch.

Plastica decided to film their dedicated and exceptionally skilled staff hand-crafting the cover from start to finish in their state-of-the-art factory in St Leonards-on-sea, in East Sussex. In just one week the cover was made and then carefully folded until it was small enough to pack up and ship out to the Bathurst Pool.

The 130ft cover came to a final weight of a surprising 129kg, much lighter than expected, but due to the extreme size of the cover, it would be predicted to sag in the water. If the cover is under the surface of the water for a prolonged period of time, this may lead to any pool chemicals that have been added to the water attacking the cover and causing detrimental damage over time.

To prevent this happening, Plastica supplied Bathurst with extra straps and Plastica Air Pillows. These are simply strapped in place underneath the cover to give it a constant lift and keep it in place and protected over the winter months.
