UK Property Market Sees 49% Increase In Searches Involving Swimming Pools
A recent study by website Money.co.uk has revealed how COVID-19 is reshaping the current property market and reprioritising what homebuyers find important when hunting for a new home.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the real estate market has seen a huge surge of lockdown demands, from home gyms to stables, as people begin to adapt to a new way of lockdown living.
Using luxury property agency Savills, Money.co.uk identified the key property features listed in each country and also analysed search volume data to understand which property features have increased in demand since the start of the pandemic and has become a new property necessity.
The pandemic has left the world in need of easy access to physical activity as well as a sense of escapism, hence why swimming pools became the most desirable property feature in nine different countries including the UK, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland and Thailand.
Search volume for houses with pools for sale increased by 49% and also appears as a key property feature for 97 UK properties on Savills website, making it the top luxury property feature in the UK as well as the world!
Search volumes for ‘houses with gardens for sale’ also increased by 74% worldwide in the 12 months prior to the analysis. With many city homeowners migrating into more suburban areas throughout lockdown, the opportunities to own properties with gardens became more achievable, and thus the demand for gardens has skyrocketed throughout the pandemic - news which is sure to benefit both the pool and hot tub sectors longer-term.
With the world closing its doors to public gyms and leisure centres, home workouts became all the rage too and Google search volume data for home gym space increased by 100% in the UK.
Working from home also meant that buyers prioritised fast internet when looking to buy a house. Search volumes on the availability of fibre optic internet increased by 91% worldwide since March 2020 and as businesses continue to work remotely, demand is expected to increase.
